What has changed in our Care Directory?

A new law governing the way we regulate health and adult social care in England came into force on 1 October 2010. This introduced a new set of essential standards of quality and safety that all care providers must meet.

As a result of this change in legislation, we moved from periodic assessments and quality ratings to a system of continuous monitoring of compliance with the essential standards.

We are carrying out a series of updates to the details available in our care directory from 5 July 2011. This means you will be able to find more detailed information about care homes, domiciliary care agencies and independent healthcare providers on our website.

We have now published full registration information on all NHS trusts and around 90 per cent of independent healthcare and adult social care organisations. We will continue to update the directory regularly going forward.

Differences you'll notice on our website now

You will now be able to find several new pieces of information for most adult social care and independent healthcare providers. These are:

  • Lists of the types of care service available at the location.
  • The name of the person responsible for each care service at the location.
  • Details of the terms of the provider’s licence to carry on the services, including any conditions placed upon them.
